Question: World of warcraft auctions?

I am still very new to World of Warcraft - aka I'm trying to earn money. I took 5 oily blackmouths to an auciton house in Stormwind and accidentally set the price 5 gold each. I cancelled the bid assuming I'd get my fish back, but they just disapeared. So I figured you can't cancel a bid so I took 12 oily blackmouths there again and set the price 50silver and left. I came back to check the auction and I couldn't find it. I searched oily blackmouths and got a few auctions, but none that were mine. What do I do? And can someone explain how to use the auction house for future reference?

The items you canceled were sent to your mailbox, minus the fee you paid to post the auctions. The second set of items sold and the money was sent to your mailbox. So check your mail. Whenever you purchase something from the auction house, the item will be sent to your mailbox as well. Mailboxes are scattered throughout the big cities and are right outside the inns. You can click the little magnifying glass next to your map and it will give you the option to track mailboxes (among other things). The best way to make money and XP is to do the quests. There are thousands of them. Good luck and have fun!
